What we do
Bethel New Life is a multi-generational organization built around one belief: wellness is a birthright. On one campus, we create places to live, learn, eat, and gather, so neighbors can thrive from childhood through elderhood.
Our Story
What started in 1979 as a 3-flat restoration has blossomed into a 9-acre campus and ecosystem of wellness.
Once upon a time, West Garfield Park was losing 200 housing units per year. No bank. No grocery store. Too few jobs.
Bethel Lutheran Church bought an abandoned 3-flat from HUD for $250 and refurbished it with community labor and vision. That work planted a question: What if the community rebuilt itself?
Then we grew. We acquired the former St. Ann's Hospital campus, 9 acres in Austin's heart. Over decades, we served 500,000 individuals, created 7,000 jobs, and developed 1,000 homes.
Now we're building what comes next. Mildred Wiley Wellness Campus rises at our heart.
Harvest turns food into culture and opportunity. Bethel is proof that rebirth is possible.
